The impressive Medieval church of San Domenico in Alba hosts the solo exhibition of Tullio Pericoli entitled The hills ahead: 85 new works by the artist inspired by his journey into the land of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato – whose vineyard landscapes were recognized by Unesco as World Heritage Sites – painted in the different seasons of the year. With this exhibition, the painter acknowledges his recent attraction for the Piedmontese hills and his works are displayed precisely during the period when, thanks to the International Alba White Truffle Fair, Alba becomes an international tourist attraction.

«My friendship with Giorgio Bocca – says Tullio Pericoli took me to these places since the ’90s. I used to come with him occasionally, looking for wines, and when we found ourselves in front of these landscapes I could see a look of love in his eyes. A recent invitation prompted me to come back and see again these lands through my own tools: eyes, hand, pencil, brushes».

The Alba solo exhibition focuses on a work of over two years through canvases, panels and paperboards, using and often overlapping various techniques, such as oil, ink, watercolor, collage.

«Everything is present in these paintings for the visible and almost tactile pleasure of the eye,- writes Giuseppe Montesano in the catalogue - and yet everything escapes, (...) A vision of the world that is shattered, with irreparable kindness, by the dance, whose signs and musical arabesques are unleashed around that meaningful void that can only be told through images: and you leave each of these paintings with the feeling that even after having enjoyed in pleasure their beautiful surfaces, the images preserve their innate visionary strength, and we could start watching them over and over again without ever consuming them».

On this occasion, Casa Editrice Skira, will publish a catalog entitled The hills ahead. A journey into the land of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato including, in addition to the aforementioned text by Giuseppe Montesano, a text by the art historian Giovanni Romano and by Piercarlo Grimaldi, anthropologist and rector of the University of Gastronomic Sciences. The book will be available for sale at the exhibition venue, as well as in the main bookshops.
