Cortile della Maddalena
GIOVANNI BOFFA. LA MAGIA DEL MARE NELLA PITTURA

The exhibition was born from the donation to the Civic Museum of over 100 Malacological Notebooks written by the Turin painter Giovanni Boffa (1935-2017). The author of this donation, in 2022, is the Veronese Valter Borsato, friend and admirer of the painter, as well as curator of many of his exhibitions, including that held at the Civic Museum until 31 December 2023. The exhibition is a tribute to the Turin painter Giovanni Boffa, who with his painting has represented a voice of Piedmontese artistic genius. From his first paintings related to a type of “classical” painting, in the course of his life, he has combined a spirit of almost scientific observation for nature with a symbolic and imaginative representation of the same, arriving at a visionary realism in its various forms. The exhibition exhibits the Malacological Notebooks, 24 oil paintings representing marine animals, works chosen to bring out that bond of loving senses that the painter had with the sea, and offers a video in which Boffa expresses his relationship with painting.
