Chiesa di San Giuseppe
The Alba Music Festival at Alba’s International White Truffle Fair 2023

Alba Music Festival presents the 12th edition of CLASSICA, the Sunday Morning Concerts, under the artistic direction of Giuseppe Nova.

The concerts are scheduled every Sunday morning at 11 a.m. from 8th October to 26th November 2023 in the Church of San Giuseppe in Alba. Eight musical events mark the Sundays of the International Alba White Truffle Fair and represent a space for pleasure and culture, dedicated to classical music lovers in one of the most interesting and attractive periods for the area.
CLASSICA’s programme, with chamber ensembles and soloists of the highest calibre, is addressed to the many enthusiasts who regularly follow Alba Music Festival and at the same time it enhances the city’s rich calendar, offering, through the universal language of music, an essential cultural feature.

The artistic programme

The musical season has many attractions and, as always, presents prestigious talents and names in classical music along with programmes of great interest in a line-up of international artists for the most cosmopolitan moment of the Alba annual event. The curtain rises with the orchestral ensemble of the Academia Montis Regalis conducted by Marco Ceccato; this will be followed by a trio of Spanish soloists interpreting the historical chamber version of Beethoven’s famous Triple Concerto, with Joaquín Palomares on violin and the brothers David and Carlos Apellániz on cello and piano; then a programme between Classical and Jazz with Giovanni Scotta’s original elaborations from Johann Sebastian Bach to Leonard Bernstein; continuing with a recital by German cellist and conductor Alexander Hülshoff and Japanese pianist Megumi Hashiba in a recital between Fauré, Rossini and Massenet. Next, there is the famous Schubertian quartet Der Tod un das Mädchen (Death and the Maiden) with the Maffei Quartet; then, a passage to Prague with the trio composed of Miroslav Matějka’s flute, Jitka Hosprová’s viola and Kateřina Englichová’s famous harp; followed by a great performer such as Georgian Elisso Bolkvadze, UNESCO Artist for Peace, in an extraordinary piano recital. The festival ends with Giuseppe Nova, artistic director of the event, together with cellist Dario Destefano and Belgian pianist Patrick Dheur, as part of an international cultural project binding the two countries.
