Set in the heart of the vineyard hills of the Roero in a dominant position, the Castle of Monticello is today one of the best preserved medieval buildings in the area. The castle, since 1376 owned by the Roero di Monticello family, is a typical example of a fortified residence which was transformed into an elegant country mansion at the end of the eighteenth century.
From 2nd October to 8th December 2020, thanks to Aimone and Elisa Roero di Monticello and the invaluable support of the Association for the Heritage of the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato wine-growing and wine-producing areas, the Castle will host an exhibition to unveil the heart of the Roero, where the landscape stretches over a series of hills and plateaus, with vines, woods and orchards, which all contribute to the unique biodiversity of this ancient area.Theme of the exhibition is lvano Piva’s project “Outside-Inside”, where Roero’s products are told through macro-enlargements. Truffles, strawberries, hazelnuts, grapes, asparagus, cherries have been dissected up to the “heart” to create images of great emotional impact.
The exhibition, curated by Carla Restore, in addition to a major opening event, will include several special tours with the curator, meetings with the photographer and a performance at the Truffle Fair. Furthermore, the Association for the Heritage of Wine Landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato will also host a side-exhibition of the most beautiful images of the wine landscapes of the UNESCO area set up in the castle park.
