The International Alba White Truffle Fair is an unmissable moment of celebration in which the whole city takes part.
A unique opportunity to discover the millenary culture of Alba through folklore events and historical re-enactments which involve and entertain visitors in a carousel of colours, flags, music and popular games.
It kicks of with Capitolo della Giostra delle Cento Torri (Chapter of the 100 Towers carousel), an event where the representatives of the Giostra delle Cento Torri and the presidents of the Alba boroughs present the Autumn events. Next comes the performance of the Flag Wavers and Musicians Group of the City of Alba in Piazza Risorgimento and the election of the Bela Trifulera dei Borghi. It continues on the last Saturday of September with the Podestà Investiture, or the reconstruction of a historical episode through which the medieval figure of the Podestà of Alba allows the villages to run the Donkey Palio. Therefore, the first Sunday in October starts at 10.00 a.m. with the draw and the assignment of the donkeys to the villages. In the afternoon, a big historical parade with more than a thousand participants coming from the districts of Alba will start from Piazza Michele Ferrero to reach Piazza Cagnasso where each borough will present a historical episode of medieval inspiration in front of a qualified jury, The day ends with the amusing Donkey Palio, where nine districts of Alba compete for the coveted cloth. On the second Saturday of October there is an event in-between sport and tradition with the Pantalera in historical costume, an exciting variation of fistball, the most typical local sport. The event scheduled on the third weekend of October is much awaited and not to be missed: the historical re-enactments of the Boroughs Bacchanal where walk-on actors dressed in period costumes, ancient games, dances and songs as well as the most delicious traditional delicacies relive the medieval atmosphere.
