Set in the beautiful natural scenery of the Langhe, and of which it is the historical and economic capital, Alba is a city rich in culture, history and traditions. It is the ancient Alba Pompeia, though its origins are clearly pre-Roman, rich in archaeological finds and evidence of its glorious past.
The city can boast among its citizens illustrious men such as emperors (including the consul Publius Elvius Pertinace), experts in law and history, ministers, as well as some contemporary entrepreneurs. Alba is known for its beauty, its curious sights, its renowned industries and gastronomic products, including truffles and wine, which are now sold all over the world.

The Museum takes visitors on a journey into the world of truffles, from their mythical origins to the most up-to-date scientific discoveries, from their connections with the world of art and design to local traditions and the role of truffles in the history of cuisine.
Ample space is dedicated to the truffle hunting tradition (Cerca e Cavatura del Tartufo), which is inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
The close relationship between truffle hunters and their dogs is also told through the photographic project Truffle Hunters and Their Dogs by Steve McCurry.
